Sterling Homes is one of South Australia’s leading home builders. The locally-owned business has built more than 13,000 homes and won countless housing industry awards.
We were engaged to plan, design and develop a comprehensive website to showcase the builder’s home designs, promote its display villages and to provide home buyers with background information about the organisation.
As a mass market builder, search engine optimisation (SEO) was a major focus of the project. The website maintains strong visibility in search engines for competitive keywords, such as “home builder Adelaide” (first page on Google).
We worked subject to Sterling Homes’ strict brand guidelines, but designed a website that breaks the mould of convention. This builds on a perception of customisability and provides home buyers with information in a presentational format. At the same time the website maintains simplicity in its navigation and functionality, making the website accessible to a wide audience.
The website manages to distill comprehensive information into a user friendly format. For example, the “Designs” section shows close to 100 home designs. Understanding that this can be an information overload, we’ve developed simple tools allowing these designs to be filtered to match a home buyer’s own requirements. For example, if you have purchased a block that’s only 12 metres wide and you are looking to build a double-story home, the options shown will automatically update to highlight the designs that fits these requirements.
With a large percentage of users visiting the website from mobile devices (close to 50%), device optimisation was also a large focus of the project. The website has been custom-developed following best practice responsive principles and even complex functionality such as the home design filtering mentioned above works seamlessly across desktop, tablet and mobile devices.
